Use of the Flip Camera in Room 185...Parkview High

The Flip camera might not take the highest quality still shots, but is it ever handy. The lovely picture above was taken on the flip camera, and I'm just certain Katie appreciated how quickly it all went...snap a shot, plug camera into desktop, and voila...a new school picture for Katiedog, a new… Continue

Commenting on VoiceThreads - Speeding Up the Process

I hope everyone is sailing smoothly through the first quarter of this school year. I am excited to see what you have already done with what you learned at the Advanced Institute or what you are planning to do in the future. I will be posting a flyer that gives more detail on our renewal later today. Rene pointed out something to me yesterday that might speed up the process of making the voice comments to the threads. Since all of the VoiceThreads are loaded on the same page, we are experiencing… Continue

Advanced Institute Renewal - October 29th

The date of our October renewal is approaching as fast as the blustery autumn winds. There are some things needing to be done prior to our meeting on October 29th. For those who have not already done this, you need to click on the VoiceThread tab above and make AUDIO comments to each of the VoiceThreads posted. Making the comments is relatively easy. All you need is a cheap microphone. I use a $3 mic from Radio Shack. Setting up the microphone is also pretty simple, but for those h… Continue

Nature of the New Writing

Joe Bellino and I are facilitating a Reading the Research session focused on Teaching the New Writing at this year’s Annual Meeting. It’s a great text and a must-have for your site’s library.

Using their own experiences in the classroom, the featured authors discuss the challenges and rewards of integrating technology into their teaching practices. The book also explores some significant implication…

Looking for Feedback on the Idea of a "Digital Writing Project"

This is cross-posted from my blog, and I hope to get some feedback from my NWP colleagues...

As we prepare to head to the NWP Annual Meeting and NCTE Convention in just about a week, I am also plugging away at our Chippewa River Writing Project Continued Funding Application. I have come to one of the most compelling parts of the report, at least for me… the point where we reflect on the summer institute and think about what that means for our site. So, here is where I am at right now and, in th…

Looking for Pen Pals

Howdy Friends -

Do you think "someone" could set-up a place where teachers can go to find pen pals? Maybe we would sign-up by state and grade and go from there. I have been beating the bushes, but I am struggling to find a pen pals that would actually write. (grin) I would like to try and collaborate with technology as well. Come on ... any takers? Juanita

Building Digital Bridges

Wesley Fryer was the keynote speaker at the KATE 2009 Conference this past week. It was refreshing and gratifying to hear a educational technology expert inspire a room full of English teachers to incorporate new technologies into their instruction of 21st Century learners.

Wes spoke of the digital native vs. the digital immigrant and also referenced those known as digital refugees. He inspired me to build a digital bridge (his term) in both my classroom and Writing Project site. Here is a link…
